Today was an unusual day in San Diego, because it was raining, which is not that common in San Diego and drivers tend act and drive dumb while it's raining. I knew that I had to be cautious while I was on the freeway, which I was, even to a point that I was driving at the speed limit which is 65mph. I was in the 2nd lane from the inside and I could sense that there was something going on 1 car ahead of me but I couldn't see because I was driving behind a Toyota Tundra truck and the rain was coming down hard and fast. All of a sudden out of no where the Toyota Tundra truck braked so quickly and when I saw the truck braking, it didn't give me enough time to brake as well and all of a sudden... BANG! I ram right behind the Toyota Tundra truck! The first thing that came into mind was making sure that my little brother was okay and that I was okay myself.
Now, I was trying to maneuver my car in between the lanes to the shoulder to figure what damaged has been done to my car and the Toyota Tundra. I'm already shaken, scared and trying to gather myself to talk to the driver of the truck. A guy who was a passenger from the truck immediately asks me Why did you hit the car? He asked the question in a slightly angry tone and all I could answer was I don't know, I don't know. While I was waiting for the driver of the truck to come out, I immediately told my brother to call my mom, I could dial her number myself because I was still trying to gather myself so when my mom finally answered the phone, the first thing I told her was "Mom, I just got into an accident", her response was "What?!?!" and I repeated it again "Mom, I just got into an accident", she said "Oh! my God, How? When? Where?" and I went to explain to my mom what happen, after explaining she said "Oh! my God, Are you Okay?... I am in El Cajon... Did you call your dad yet?" and I told her "No, that you were the first person that I called and I was going to call daddy as soon as I finish talking to you." She responded with "Okay, go and call daddy and don't give out anything." I said "Alright, bye mommy."
While I was on the phone with my mom, the driver of the truck finally came out and started look and see if there was an damage done to the back bumper of his truck and saw nothing and then he look and saw the damage done to my car, which was major. He asked me if I was okay and I told him that I was okay. He was explaining to me that "There was a FedEx truck that was ahead of him that was swerving in between the lanes and he immediately started braking." and I jumped in by nodding my head in agreement with what he was saying. The driver was actually a really nice guy, he made sure that there wasn't any damage done to engine or that nothing was leaking under the hood. So he asked me to open the hood of my car, because he wanted to make sure that nothing is leaking or damage and so I did. He checked out the everything under the hood and found out that nothing was leaking or damaged under the hook and all I could say was "Thank God".
While all of this was going on, I was still on the phone with my dad and he was telling me "Tell the driver that they can go ahead and go and that I should just head back home" and my response was "Okay, daddy I'm going home" before this time the driver of the truck had already left and I was still in the shoulder lane finishing up my conversation with my dad. The last thing, he mentioned to me was "Go ahead and head home, you need to leave from that area before the police will come and start suspecting that something is wrong and that I should have gone to a secure area like a gas station or a shopping mall parking lot but its okay, it has happened so go ahead and go home." I responded "I got it, daddy... alright bye daddy." I hung up the phone with him and headed straight home with my radio off because I wasn't in the mood to listen to music at that point so I drove home in complete silence. A lesson was learned in all of this which was: You may never know, when you breath your last breathe or listened to last favorite song on the radio. Today was a very very lucky day for me and my brother, I wasn't hurt at all but my car took a huge hit but it can always be fixed but we both only have 1 life to live and that's it. I will definitely say an extra prayer before going to bed to God, thanking him for saving me and my brother's life from today's accident and to continue to protect me as I will be driving in my car on the highways and byways.
I will continue to live my life to the fullest but also take precaution as well.
Serenity Prayer
God grant me the serenity to accept the
things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time;
Enjoying
one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to
peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things
right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this
life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.
Amen.
